5 Moody Lipsticks You Can Find at Ulta

I’m more of a minimalist when it comes to makeup. I use eyeliner sometimes, mascara always, and the right moody lipsticks to bring the look together. It also helps that I’m not an expert at applying lipstick, so lipstick is critical for most of my looks.

What I look for in a lip color is that it must be dark and evoke a seductive or unique quality. So, a trip to Ulta was in the cards to check consistency and wear without paying upfront for the items.

So here we are, in a normie store that does not usually cater to the dark side, a list of moody lipsticks that do.

1. “Smoked Purple” by MAC Cosmetics

I actually went home with this one. Purple lipstick, a color not often seen in the wild, holds a special place in my heart. It brings a moody elegance that resonates with my style. After all, purple is the color of royalty. What I found most appealing about this lipstick is its moisturizing effect, a necessity for my chronically dry lips.

2. “Antique Velvet” by MAC Cosmetics

Naturally being in the same area, the second on the list is another MAC item. Antique Velvet is a rich and dark brown with a red undertone. It is not my color unfortunately but is definitely worthy of this list since it could look stunning on someone else. This silk matte lipstick is moisturizing and luxurious. If you love a deep brown, buy it!

3. “Hollyberry” by Kylie Jenner

This lipstick is like biting into a plumb and staining your lips a dark and ravishing color. Technically not a lipstick, this is actually the winner when it comes to having a sexy, rich, moody lip color that also withstands the test of time. Seriously, I washed my hands multiple times, and the color barely budged from the sample swab I made. It does come with a pencil, but I was unable to use the pencil as it was worn down.

4. “Compatible” by Morphe

Don’t let the look of this lip color from the outside fool you. This is definitely higher on my list of must-have moody lipsticks if you want the longer-lasting color than those mentioned above. Romantic Goths, this one’s for you!

5. “Everybody’s Heroine” by MAC Cosmetics

This one is for all you Pastel Goths out there. If you’re on the hunt for a lipstick that’s both chic and a statement color, look no further. Creamy, bright, and still evoking a certain moodiness, it’s a striking color that complements dark and light hair colors alike.

Would Not Recommend:

Black lip color from Ulta.

Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick

If you need black lip color, you might purchase this one. I would not recommend it. The only highlight is that it lasts (I had to use oil to remove it), but in addition to the color bleeding, as you can see on the top lip, it remains sticky for the duration. There is not even coverage, so you have to apply multiple coats. Suitable for a Halloween night, but not on my recommendations as an everyday wear.

I wanted to give you all the bonus details with a photo of these moody lipsticks on my hand. That way, it can help you tell what they look like applied. Pardon my dashboard; I have dogs, and it has become my adventure car, haha.

Please note that these are the moody lipsticks at the Ulta where I live. Your store may carry different options, so check the site first to see if there is one that you have your heart set on before making the trip.
